Abstract

The social study of modern Saraiki poetry reveals that Saraiki poetry is not merely a means of literary expression but also a significant reflection of the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the Saraiki region. Modern Saraiki poets have incorporated various social issues of their time into their poetry, including poverty, hunger, thirst, deprivation, unrest, social evils, class conflict, and the hardships faced by marginalized communities. Their poetry not only portrays the suffering and difficulties of the poor but also expresses a strong desire for social justice and a better society. The study demonstrates that modern Saraiki poetry has a strong orientation toward “literature for life”, as poets seek to create social awareness, highlight the problems of their people, and draw attention to the collective deprivation of the Saraiki region. The analysis concludes that modern Saraiki poetry performs an important role not only in documenting the social realities of the Saraiki society but also in promoting human sympathy, social justice, collective consciousness, attachment to the homeland, and love for the mother tongue. Thus, modern Saraiki poetry serves as both a literary representation of society and a powerful medium for social awareness and reform.
