“CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND SOURCE VERIFICATION OF UNIQUE NARRATIONS RELATED TO THE BATTLE OF BADR IN ṬABAQĀT IBN SAAD

Abstract

This study investigates the unique narrations of the Battle of Badr in Ṭabaqāt Ibn Saad, focusing on their critical analysis (taḥqīq) and source verification (takhrīj). It highlights additional details reported by Ibn Saʿd—such as descriptions of angelic support, treatment of prisoners, and contributions of lesser-known Companions and compares them with parallel accounts in more authentic sources like Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, and Sīrah Ibn Hishām. The analysis shows that while the core events of Badr are firmly established, many of these unique details rely on weak or disconnected chains, often linked to al-Wāqidī. Therefore, these narrations hold historical value but require careful evaluation and cross-referencing to ensure accurate understanding
